Husna's Indian Kitchen - Our story

Husna's Indian Kitchen is a family operated business run by head chefs Husna and Mohammad Shahid along with their son Parvez who looks after front of house.

Mohammads Story:

Mohammad Shahid's history goes all the way back to Lucknow, India, also known as "The Constantinople of India", "Golden City of the East" and "City of Nawabs" (City of Mughal Emperors/Rulers). A city with a rich history in arts, poetry, music and fine "Mughlai" cuisine, a cuisine with a royal touch. Here Mohammad spent several years during his early career as a head chef at Hotel Clarks Awadh and serving his signature dishes to influential figures at the time such as Indira Gandhi (Third Prime Minister of India).

After a successful career at Hotel Clarks Awadh, Mohammad arrived in Melbourne, Australia, to share is love and passion for fine Indian cuisine with the Australian community. Mohammad worked as a head chef and operated several iconic Indian restaurants such as Phantom India, Amber, Taj Tandoori and Nullfaur, his previous takeaway shop in St. Kilda which he had operated along with his wife Husna for 9 years.

Husna's Story:

Husna worked along side her husband Mohammad for many years at their restaurants, most notably at Nullfaur Indian Takeaway in St. Kilda from 2013 to 2022. After handing over a well established and reputated Nullfaur to the new owners in early 2022, Husna took a break from the industry. After several months, Husna along with her son Parvez, began "Husna's Indian Kitchen" from their home, a takeaway and food delivery service offering flavourful Indian food without the excess oil content and excess spices. This minimal oil, yet flavoursome style of Indian food received a fantastic response from the community, leading to the launch of Husna and Parvez's shop, Husna's Indian Kitchen on 30 Station Road in Cheltenham. Here Husna, Parvez, Mohammad and their staff work together 6 days a week to serve the local community with fresh, home cooked, light and flavoursome Indian cuisine.
